What Are Ionizing Guns?

Ionizing guns are manually directed ionized-air tools. They are typically considered for point-of-use work where an operator must direct ionized air at a defined part, fixture, package, tray, tool, or process location. The engineering task is to establish whether the manual delivery path reaches the actual charged target without creating an unacceptable disturbance to the product or process. 1 2

An ionizing gun is not a replacement for grounding, material control, or a written ESD-control process. It can be useful where the target is isolated or insulating and the required control is localized, but its effect must be evaluated at the representative target and process condition. 1
